Ostara: Spring Equinox Magic🌷🐇

🌸 Ostara: Spring Equinox Magic🌷🐇

What is Ostara?

Ostara (pronounced Oh-STAR-uh) falls right around March 20–23, marking the spring equinox - that magical moment of perfect balance when day and night are equal. From here on out, the light starts to win, and baby, we are blooming.

The name Ostara comes from the Germanic goddess Ēostre, a fertility goddess of dawn, springtime, and - you guessed it -  eggs and bunnies. Sound familiar? Yep, Easter borrowed heavily from these ancient seasonal rites.

Ostara is a celebration of rebirth, fertility, awakening, and balance. It’s when the Earth officially stirs from her long winter nap and all moms feel the call to clean, declutter, plant, and plan.

What It Represents 🌱

  • Balance (light & dark, inner & outer)
  • Fertility & creation
  • New life (literal & metaphorical)
  • Renewal of energy
  • Planting seeds (goals, gardens, dreams)

Vibes for Ostara 🌼

This is seed-planting season - physically and spiritually. It's a perfect time to get your hands in the dirt with your kiddos, start those herbal seedlings, or take the leap into something you’ve been dreaming of.

It’s also a great moment for:

  • A family nature walk or “signs of spring” scavenger hunt
  • Decluttering closets (with moon music and cacao, obvs)
  • Journaling where you want growth in your life
  • Tending to your body and soul with some well-deserved self-care

🌿  Ostara Rituals & Family Fun

🥚 Egg Dyeing with Plants – Use red cabbage, turmeric, and beets to dye real eggs naturally. Bonus: talk with your littles about how eggs represent new life!

🌸 Flower Crown Making – Craft a fresh (or faux!) flower crown to celebrate your own inner goddess. Wear it while gardening, dancing, or just vibing.

🪴 Seed Spell Jars – Fill tiny jars with a few seeds, herbs, and intentions. Label them with what you want to “grow” this season (patience, abundance, etc).

🐇 Bunny Picnic – Grab a blanket, pack a spring snack, and have a simple backyard picnic. Extra points for carrot cake bites and reading spring stories!

📦 Balance Box – Write things you want more of (and less of) and tuck them in a box. Open it next equinox to see what’s changed. #miniTimeCapsuleMagic

🧘‍♀️ Magical Tips

🌼 Herbs: Dandelion, nettle, parsley
💎 Crystals: Rose quartz, green aventurine, citrine
🌿 Essential oils: Geranium, lemon, basil
📓 Journaling Prompt: What seeds do I want to plant -  in my garden, home, or heart?

⚠ Caution Notes:

  • Always ID herbs properly before using. Dandelions are fab if unsprayed!
  • Use natural egg dyeing methods on white eggs only -  brown eggs won't show color well.
  • Essential oils: Dilute before skin contact, especially for littles and pregnancy.
